Sandrine Atabong is an expert in human rights with over a decade of experience in championing social justice. Her journey began in her formative years, inspired by her mother's leadership in the Ministry of Social and Women's Affairs in Cameroon. From a young age, Sandrine worked alongside her mother, gaining valuable experience that laid the foundation for her career in human rights.
She later pursued her passion through higher education, earning degrees in Law, Human Rights, and Humanitarian Action from the University of Yaoundé and the Catholic University of Central Africa, and further honed her expertise by working at the Center for Social Affairs and the National Commission for Human Rights and Freedoms in Yaoundé, Cameroon, before relocating to the United States.
In 2014, Sandrine founded Women in Humanitarian Dynamics (WIHD) in memory of her mother who passed away in 2011, dedicating the organization to her mother's legacy.
Under her leadership, WIHD advocates for equal economic opportunities, rights, and representation for displaced women in informal employment in communities within Cameroon and beyond. It works to bridge the gap between displaced informal workers and key stakeholders through research, leveraging innovation in Technology by using data science methods such as AI/ML.
WIHD’s mission is pursued through two main strategies: Firstly, through conducting comprehensive research and providing statistics for policy analysis on displaced persons in the informal economy. This wealth of information is essential for advocacy efforts, empowering stakeholders with the data they need to effect change.
Secondly, WIHD fosters connections between displaced individuals and workers’ organizations, (Member-based Organizations) nurturing robust regional and global networks. The goal is to cultivate a social movement grounded in the belief that collective action makes us stronger.
Sandrine also holds an MBA in information technology management from Western Governors University in the United States.
